About Triumph Church
Imagine a church that embraces the unity of community: where people can serve according to their gifts and abilities. Where Leaders lead – teacher teach – ministers minister – the gifted serve in the area of their gifts. Where every individual can discover, develop and serve according to their gift and abilities in servanthood to Christ and one another. A place that serves as the epicenter for worship and family life. Built on the liberty that permits everyone to worship freely in an inclusive, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment. A place that encourages small groups so that we grow larger and we still remain smaller and relationally connected. This church is Triumph.
Our Mission
Triumph is a biblically based community of baptized believers, charged with growing the Kingdom by demonstrating the love of God for all people through the Spirit of Praise, Worship and Fellowship.
Foundation Scripture: Matthew 22:37-40
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
What We Believe
- The Bible is the Word of God (1 Tim. 3:16)
- There is one eternal, almighty God who makes Himself known in the form of the (Trinity): Father, Son, Holy Spirit. (John 15:26)
- The deity of Jesus Christ as the Son of God: That He was born of a virgin, He atoned for our sin by His shed blood through the death of the cross and He was raised from the dead, He ascended to God’s right hand and He will return in power and glory (Col. 1:15-20)
- We are saved by grace through faith in the finished works of Christ.
- The presence of the Holy Spirit whose indwelling makes it possible for the Christian to live a godly life, empowers us and gifts the believers with gifts for two purposes: To glory God and to edify one another.
- We are part of the universal Church: Ekklesia – Greek for assembly of people, it literally means “The Called Out Ones” Under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

A Brief History of Triumph Church
Twelve miles west-northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, along the meandering Ohio River, in a community steeped in rich culture and family, one will find the city of Sewickley. Within this vibrant community nestled in Allegheny County, over 115 years ago, the vision for Triumph Church was birthed.
Over the first seven years, the congregation held meetings in various houses and buildings until, in 1911, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend R. B. Cobbs, the Church erected a building on the corner of Frederick Avenue and Ferry Street. This location remained the home of Triumph Church for over a century.
In September of 1986, Pastor Craig Giles became the new Pastor. Under his leadership, Triumph Church transformed to remain aligned to the shifting and diverging needs of a mobile society, aging membership, and the Steel Industry’s decline. To better understand the emerging needs of the community, Pastor Giles, young in the ministry, father of two small children with his wife Ronita Giles, became very active in Pittsburgh. He also became an educator and advisor in higher learning.
Pastor Giles has led and fed the spiritual needs of Triumph’s growing diverse congregation, while also giving unlimited time and service to others. In 2004, Pastor Giles made the difficult decision to find a new base for the Church that had outgrown its home after 93 years. The small Church in Sewickley, at the corner of Frederick and Ferry, purchased ten plush acres in Ohio Township to construct its new home. The new church sits on prime location with plenty of land for growth and development.
Located along a road divinely named Mt. Nebo, the new location of Triumph Church is in full panoramic view as one summits the hill of Mount Nebo. The multiplex facility boasts a plush open-floor sanctuary with state of the art media capabilities and several offices, rooms for ministerial studies, PC labs, a professional kitchen, mission food storage, and even a full basketball court. (Mt. Nebo is an elevated ridge of the Abarim in Jordan. The Hebrew Bible mentions Mt. Nebo as the place where Moses saw the Promised Land). Today, Triumph towers as a prophetic reminder that God inspired the people to build!
If the past provides predictive evidence of the future, under the Godly leadership of Pastor Giles, his gifted ministerial and servant leadership team, and the legacy of pioneers within the cloud of witnesses, Triumph is poised to fulfill the vision that Christ has purposed for this ministry.
We would love to Expose more of our rich culture at Triumph, but Experience is far better than Exposure! As an invitation from our Pastor, please, COME SEE FOR YOURSELF. Come experience Jesus Christ. Come worship with us at Triumph!
Our Pastor

Reverend Craig L. Giles, a Pittsburgh area native, was called to Christian Service as a Deacon in 1981 under the direction of Pastor Marshall F. Prentice (Baltimore, Md.). In 1983, Craig accepted the call to ministry and began theological studies at American Baptist Theological Seminary. After several years of study, he received a degree in Biblical Studies. He was also educated at Indiana University of Pa. (Psychology) & Geneva College (Social Administration).
In 1986, Pastor Giles answered the call to serve as Senior Pastor of Triumph Church in Sewickley. Pa, a church charged with growing the community for Christ is the spirit of praise, worship and fellowship. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit and over his 34 years in service Triumph has experienced the favor of Christ and has grown tremendously spiritually and numerically. In June of 2013 Triumph was blessed to move into their new 4 million dollar worship center on a 10 acres site in the Ohio Township section of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his role as Senior Pastor of Triumph, Pastor Giles serves with a number of community boards and organizations – The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, The Boy Scouts of America, Robert Morris University Campus Ministry & Board Member of the Diversity Committee, Beaver Valley YMCA, Faith Reach Magazine, Executive Chairman of Faith Vision Inc. etc… and is biblically certified marriage counselor. He strives to stay connected to the community within the region – addressing relevant issues and challenges while admonishing others to press toward the mark of our high calling in Christ.
Pastor Giles and his lovely wife Ronita have been married 40 years, and they currently reside in Center Township, PA. They are the proud parents of two young adults – Jordan and Jillian, daughter-in law Angel, son-in law Mitchell and are honored to be grandparents to Kennedi, Karter and Jacob.
We look forward to having you visit with us and will do everything in our power to ensure that you enjoy your time as our guest. We believe that children should have fun at church and at Triumph we make this a priority every single week. Children learn about God’s awesome goodness and grace, in age-appropriate, Bible-based lessons and activities. We have children’s church in four segments:
- Nursery caters to preschoolers 5 years old and younger.
- Children’s Church engages 5-8 year olds
- Junior Church focuses on 9-12 year olds
- Youth Church caters to teenagers
And, because safety is a priority at Triumph, we have on-site security and also ensure that those tasked with teaching your children have received the appropriate security clearances.
